Who will you Hike or Bike for
on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the 19th Annual Hike or Bike for Hospice?
Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. The day begins with those participating in the
bike portion of the event departing at 9:00 a.m. from Woodman Park Community
Centre. A moving Celebration of Life Ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m.,
followed by words of inspiration and encouragement from our keynote speakers. A
fun and lighthearted warm-up gets the crowd ready to hike, all the while
surrounded by family, friends and fun games and activities. A light boxed lunch
is available for all who have registered following the hike which starts at
11:00 a.m.
The inspiring 1 km, 3km or 5km walk around the Stedman Community Hospice
grounds is led by the high energy music of the Brantford Pipes & Drums Band
as friends, family and other Hospice supporters cheer one another on as they
walk, jog or run or wheel in memory of those they love.
Cyclists and hikers can take advantage of our early check-in on
Saturday, May 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 99 Wayne Gretzky Parkway, in
the St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre parking lot, off Chatham Street. Parking
available on site during Early Check-In.
Thanks to our friends at Sharp Bus Lines and Lynden Park Mall, Hike day parking
will be available at the Mall with free continuous shuttles to and from the
Hike from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. As an added bonus, park at Lynden Park Mall
and you automatically qualify for a chance to win a $250 gift card from Montana’s,
Kelsey’s or Swiss Chalet, donated by Lynden Park Mall! Please note there
is no parking available on site on the day of the event.
Prize information
We are offering up some great prizes for our hardworking hikers and bikers.
The 1st place fundraiser will receive a $1,000 gift certificate to be determined.
2nd place fundraiser will receive a $1,000 VIA Rail gift certificate.
3rd place fundraiser will receive a $500 Gift Certificate from FM Audio
The Top Fundraising Team prize to be determined!
The Top Youth Fundraiser (under 18) will receive $1,000 in cash, courtesy of Vive Brant Mechanical!

HIKERS AND BIKERS WHO PARTICIPATE IN OUR PHOTO CONTESTS HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN A $250 GIFT CARD! Details soon to be posted on the Prize Page. All registered Hikers and Bikers receive a commemorative T-shirt, listing the first names of every patient we have had the privilege of caring for since we opened, both at the Hospice & in the community through our Outreach Program. An incentive prize will be provided to all who raise $250 or more!
General Rules
1. All participants must register for the Hike or Bike to receive a t-shirt and be eligible for incentive prizes and prize draws.
2. Participants under 18 may be eligible for a prize for the most money raised by a youth, provided you've clearly checked off the Youth (under 18) check box on your pledge/online form.
3. An event waiver must be signed by all Hikers and Bikers before participating in the event.
4. The Top 3 Fundraisers, the Top Youth Fundraiser and Individual prize draws will take place on May 7th. The Top Team prize and Photo Contest winners will be announced on Friday, May 12th. Be sure to have your pledges entered online or submitted in person by 10:30 a.m. on May 7th to qualify for prizes.
5. Team names must be identified on your pledge form if you are participating as a team member.
6. There is no limit as to how many members you may have on your team but there must be at least two individuals. Participants are not eligible to win both the Individual Prize, Team Prize or Youth Prize.
7. The first individual member of a team to register automatically becomes the Team Captain. If you have a team member already designated as the Team Captain, this person would need to register before the rest of the team members.
8. Receipts will be issued for donations and pledges of $20 or more if a full address is provided. Online donations are receipted automatically.
9. Receipts for in-person donations will be sent out no later than August 31, 2023.
REGISTRATION
Q: How do I register online for the Hike or Bike for Hospice?
A: Go to www.stedmanhike.ca, click on REGISTER FOR THE HIKE/BIKE on the homepage
and complete the form. You will be guided through the registration process.
Once your transaction is complete, you will be emailed a confirmation receipt.
You may then create your own profile and send emails to your friends and family
inviting them to sponsor you and join you in the Hike and Bike.
Note: If you are in
the system due to having participated in previous years, you will receive a
notification to complete a verification email. Follow the instructions as
provided.
Q: What if I don’t want to register online?
A: Click on the Pledge Sheet button in the navigation menu and print the pledge
form so you can begin raising money for the Hospice. Registration and pledge
forms are also available at the front desk of Stedman Community Hospice, 445
Grey Street, Brantford.
Q: When can I submit my pledges and collect my
t-shirt and prizes (if applicable)?
A: Attend the "Early Check-In” on Saturday,
May 6th at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre Parking lot located at 99 Wayne Gretzky
Pkwy., Brantford (corner of Wayne Gretzky and Chatham St) from 10 a.m. to
1 p.m. Parking is available on site this day only.
Or
Sunday, May 7th from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
If you registered and received donations online, but also received cash
donations, please hand in your cash donations on or before the day of the
event. If you are participating virtually and live 50 kms or further from
Brantford, we will be pleased to mail your t-shirt to you.)
PARTICIPATION
This year you have
the option of participating in our live or virtual hike or bike.
PARTICIPATE VIRTUALLY. If you live in another town or city and wish to support
the Hike/Bike, you can do so virtually. Simply register and fundraise online. Virtual
participants can also compete in our photo contests:
"Perfect Pooch Photo” contest and "Perfect Hike Photo” contest, each
with a prize of a $250 VISA card. Visit the Prize page for full details!
INCENTIVE PRIZES
Q: How can I become eligible to earn an incentive prize?
A: You must register for the Hike or Bike
and raise a minimum of $250 to be eligible for an incentive prize.
Q: Do my online pledges count towards my
fundraising level for an incentive prize?
A: Yes. Online pledges made by Sunday, May 7th at
1:00 pm will be applied toward your fundraising total for prize eligibility.
Q: When do I receive my Incentive prize?
A: If you are entitled to an incentive prize (see
above) you will receive your prize when you check in on either May 6th or May
7th.
Q: Does my team fundraising total count towards
the incentive prize?
A: No. Team fundraising totals are NOT eligible
for Incentive prizes, however the monies raised as an individual will count
towards the incentive prize.
Q: When will the team prize be awarded?
A: The Team prize will be awarded on Friday,
May 12th. The team captain or designate will be contacted to accept the prize.
WEBSITE
Q: Is my information secure?
A: Yes. St. Joseph’s Lifecare Foundation has made
every effort to protect your information. We use industry-standard SSL
encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information,
passwords, and personal information travel securely over the Internet. There is
also an encryption engine installed on the database server so that your data is
securely stored.
Q: Why did I
receive a url in my confirmation email?
A: This url will take you to your personal
donation page. This address link is automatically included in any emails that
are sent through the email centre in the event platform after you have logged
into the website. You can also copy and paste this link into any other form of
email.
Q: Can friends and family make donations to a
Hiker or a Biker through the Hike or Bike website?
A: Yes. On the home page of the website, friends
and family can locate a Hiker or Biker by clicking on the SPONSOR A TEAM
OR AN INDIVIDUAL button. By beginning to type in the name of the Hiker,
they will be directed to the Hiker or Biker's personalized pledge page.
Q: How can I see who has donated to me?
A: Go to the MY ACCOUNT section on the
site. Type in the username and password that you received when you registered
for the event. You can then view your donor list and the amounts that have been
donated.
Q: I forgot my username and password. How can I
find out what they are?
A: Remember that your username and password are
case sensitive. If you cannot remember your username and password, click on
the FORGOT PASSWORD link and follow the prompts.
Q: Why can’t I see all of the names of my
supporters on the scroll bar?
A: As your donors make a contribution, they have
the option of whether or not they want to appear in the recognition scroll. If they
choose "no”, their name will not appear.
Q: Will my name and information be shared with
third parties/ third party mailing lists? various mailing lists?
A: We do not share any information you provide
us.
PARKING
Q: Where can I park if I want to check in on the day before
the Hike or Bike?
A: Parking is available at the Lifecare
Centre (corner of Gretzky and Chatham) on Saturday, May 6th for check-in only
from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Q: Is there parking available at the event on the
day of the Hike?
A: No. Due to the limited parking availability,
all parking will be at LYNDEN PARK MALL lot, in the vicinity of Kelsey’s and
Brantford Tourism. Free continuous shuttles, courtesy of Sharp Bus Lines
to and from the event will run between 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Every hiker
parking at the mall will have a chance to WIN a $250 GIFT CARD TO MONTANA'S,
SWISS CHALET AND KELSEYS!
Q: What parking is available for cyclists on the day of the Bike?
A: Cyclist's can park at Woodman Park Community Centre in the parking lot located at 491 Grey St, Brantford, ON N3S 7L7.
BIKE FOR HOSPICE
Q: How do I register for the bike component of Hike or Bike for Hospice?
A: You can register online at www.stedmanhike.ca and simply indicate that you will be participating in the bike portion of the event. You can also register/check-in in person at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre (corner of Gretzky and Chatham) on Saturday, May 6th for check-in/pre-registration only from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

You can also register the day of the event on Sunday, May 7th from 8:30 am – 8:50 am at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre (corner of Gretzky and Chatham).

Q: What time does the bike component of the Hike

A: The bike component of the Hike or Bike for
Hospice starts at 9:00 a.m. departing from Woodman Park Community Centre and
finishes at the same location around 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Q: How far is the Bike component of the Hike or Bike
for Hospice?
A: There are two distances for those who want to
participate in the bike portion of the Hike or Bike for Hospice. There is a 5 km
and 18 km bike that leaves Woodman Park Community Centre and travels
residential streets and accesses the bike trail as well. Both distances are an ‘out
and back’ route.
Q: What is the bike route for the bike component of the event?
A: Click on the link to access the bike route.
Q: When I am finished the bike component where do I go?
A: When you are finished with the bike component
of the event, we encourage bike participants to pack up their bike and bring it
with you to St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre to join in the festivities, including
picking up your boxed lunch.
